Hard Disk Diet - How to preserve the memory of PC

Each PC storage device is the hard disk. Almost all applications are stored there, including the operating system, even the programs that are loaded through CDs and other storage media to save anything on your hard drive. The hardware component of the role can not be overstated.

The Check Up

While hard drives can be filled to the brim, it is important to always keep it simple and clean from unwanted clutter. Too many programs installed, especially the most unnecessary, affect the performance of the peripherals. If you have the hard drive longer to access files or load software you use, then it's time to clean the data in it.

Before sweeping the dirt out of the data on your hard drive, it would be great if you have an idea about the size of used and available space of your disk. You can do this by clicking on “My Computer”. Right click on drive C (or whatever drive you use), then choose Properties.

Perform a disk cleanup.

You do not need a third party software for this task. Just follow this: To open, select Start • All Programs • Accessories • System Tools • Disk Cleanup. Specify the drive you want to be cleaned in the dialog. After the initial exploration program ends, then provide the user with a list of files that can be removed without causing any problems. You can get additional information about the selected file by clicking it. Verify that the files you want deleted.

Defrag.

Windows has its own disk defragmentation software. The step is to access it, select Start • All Programs • Accessories • System Tools • Disk Defragmenter. Specify the drive you want to defragment. File deletion is not here. The only thing that the application can do is to fix the position of files on your hard drive.

Remove unwanted files.

Of course, the easiest way to create space is by removing the unit content. However, there is a way to do this to ensure that all files or program component to be removed will be removed completely. To do this, just follow this step and click one by one: Start • Settings • Control Panel • Add or Remove Programs. A list of all programs installed on your computer will appear on your screen. Choose age or not used. However, be careful in removing those you are not familiar with what might be important for the proper functioning of your system.

Use an external hard drive.

Although this is very convenient to use as your main storage device, it can be a viable alternative to programs that you do not use frequently. It could also serve as a backup device.

Zip files

This process reduces the file size to one third of its original mass by using advanced compression techniques. Zip file access is easy. It’s wise old postcards and rarely used data on your hard drive to free up valuable disk space.

Use discs for storing data files.

Data disks will not be able to store as many files as hard disks, but you can remedy the situation zipping data before storing.

Transferring music files to another storage medium.

MP3, WMA and other formats of music files are huge. Filling the disk with several albums of music can significantly reduce the disk space available for other programs. It is therefore advisable that these files are placed in other storage media.

Clean your desk.

Too many files on the desktop can be a monstrosity. Remove some of the icons and then to other folders, like “My Documents” or “My Pictures”.

Use markers.

Browsing the web can be a breeze, if you can easily access the websites that you visit frequently. Markers to reduce the amount of time it takes for your computer to access your favorite sites recalling its URL.

Organize your folders.

Try to keep your My Documents, My Music, My Pictures folders or organized. Create or remove subfolders that are not necessary. However, be very cautious about deleting data from your operating system as an erroneous deletion could lead to system errors.
