Hard Disk Diet
- How to preserve the memory of PC
Each PC storage device is the hard disk. Almost all
applications are stored there, including the operating
system, even the programs that are loaded through CDs and
other storage media to save anything on your hard drive. The
hardware component of the role can not be overstated.
The Check Up
While hard drives can be filled to the brim, it is important
to always keep it simple and clean from unwanted clutter.
Too many programs installed, especially the most
unnecessary, affect the performance of the peripherals. If
you have the hard drive longer to access files or load
software you use, then it's time to clean the data in it.
Before sweeping the dirt out of the data on your hard drive,
it would be great if you have an idea about the size of used
and available space of your disk. You can do this by
clicking on “My Computer”. Right click on drive C (or
whatever drive you use), then choose Properties.
The Hard Drive Liposuction
Perform a disk cleanup.
You do not need a third party software for this task. Just
follow this: To open, select Start • All Programs •
Accessories • System Tools • Disk Cleanup. Specify the drive
you want to be cleaned in the dialog. After the initial
exploration program ends, then provide the user with a list
of files that can be removed without causing any problems.
You can get additional information about the selected file
by clicking it. Verify that the files you want deleted.
Defrag.
Windows has its own disk defragmentation software. The step
is to access it, select Start • All Programs • Accessories •
System Tools • Disk Defragmenter. Specify the drive you want
to defragment. File deletion is not here. The only thing
that the application can do is to fix the position of files
on your hard drive.
Remove unwanted files.
Of course, the easiest way to create space is by removing
the unit content. However, there is a way to do this to
ensure that all files or program component to be removed
will be removed completely. To do this, just follow this
step and click one by one: Start • Settings • Control Panel
• Add or Remove Programs. A list of all programs installed
on your computer will appear on your screen. Choose age or
not used. However, be careful in removing those you are not
familiar with what might be important for the proper
functioning of your system.
Use an external hard drive.
Although this is very convenient to use as your main storage
device, it can be a viable alternative to programs that you
do not use frequently. It could also serve as a backup
device.
Zip files
This process reduces the file size to one third of its
original mass by using advanced compression techniques. Zip
file access is easy. It’s wise old postcards and rarely used
data on your hard drive to free up valuable disk space.
Use discs for storing data files.
Data disks will not be able to store as many files as hard
disks, but you can remedy the situation zipping data before
storing.
Transferring music files to another storage medium.
MP3, WMA and other formats of music files are huge. Filling
the disk with several albums of music can significantly
reduce the disk space available for other programs. It is
therefore advisable that these files are placed in other
storage media.
Clean your desk.
Too many files on the desktop can be a monstrosity. Remove
some of the icons and then to other folders, like “My
Documents” or “My Pictures”.
Use markers.
Browsing the web can be a breeze, if you can easily access
the websites that you visit frequently. Markers to reduce
the amount of time it takes for your computer to access your
favorite sites recalling its URL.
Organize your folders.
Try to keep your My Documents, My Music, My Pictures folders
or organized. Create or remove subfolders that are not
necessary. However, be very cautious about deleting data
from your operating system as an erroneous deletion could
lead to system errors.
